Apply ShaderGlass Effects to Webcam or Capture Card
ShaderGlass supports capture from USB sources such as webcams and capture cards, enabling live shader effects on incoming video.
Before you begin
Use Windows 10 version 2004 (build 19041) or Windows 11 and a DirectX 11-capable GPU. Confirm the source window or capture device works without additional post-processing. The exact labels can differ between ShaderGlass versions and operating modes.
Step-by-step workflow
- Connect the webcam or capture card and ensure Windows recognizes it.
- Verify the device in a normal camera/viewer application first.
- Select the USB capture source in the relevant ShaderGlass mode.
- Test a lightweight effect and check latency, scaling and source resolution.
Important details and limitations
Capture performance can depend on USB bandwidth, camera format and GPU processing.
This setup changes a live display, not necessarily the original recorded capture stream.
If the device is missing, check camera permissions and whether another app is holding it exclusively.
How to verify the result
Compare the processed scene with the same source shown without ShaderGlass. Watch for clipping, unexpected color changes, black regions and input lag. Keep one parameter fixed at a time while troubleshooting. For version-dependent settings, refer to the developer manual instead of relying on old screenshots.
Questions and answers
Can ShaderGlass use a capture card?
Yes. USB capture card sources are listed among its supported capabilities.
Will it improve the camera’s sensor quality?
No. Filters alter the displayed image but do not add missing source detail.
